Durag Festival is looking for ways to help raise awareness and need for sustainable fashion while elevating talented artists and our community. We love the idea of bringing awareness to eco-friendly fashion by highlighting the best of the best in eco-fashion and paying homage to the durag and its significance in preserving black culture.
WHAT IS THE CHALLENGE?
For the 2024 Durag Festival Upcycle Challenge, you are asked to create a unique, show-stopping durag and/or Durag Festival outfit using only existing materials.
Your artwork can reflect any theme or inspiration of your choosing but must include the creation of an original durag.
We are excited to have you participate in the second year of the Upcycle Challenge with sustainable fashion at the center.
Review the above direction and use it as guidance to create your design submission.
- Designs should use sustainable or already existing materials to create a new product.
- Designs must (1) be original and (2) not infringe on copyrights or other intellectual property rights
HOW DO I SUBMIT MY DESIGN?
Submit your entry via the online submission form. Entries can be submitted beginning FEBRUARY 16TH, 2024 until 11:59 PM EST on MAY 5TH, 2024. By submitting your entry, you’re confirming that you have read and agree to the contest RULES. When submitting, a completed entry must include:
- An Instagram post tagged with the official contest hashtag #duragfestupcycle. The post should showcase the process and final result of your garment(s) on a live model (aka person or individual). Post do not have to be limited to images or video. Applicants are encouraged to get creative with their post submissions, as these will be showcased to the public for the public voting portion of the contest that will determine the winner.
- The showcased product should be created/sourced from existing and/or sustainable materials only.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
The Upcycle Challenge Contest (“Contest”) is open to residents of the 50 States and the District of Columbia, 18 or older at the time of entry. Employees of Durag Festival, LLC, its affiliates, subsidiaries and their immediate families are not eligible to participate in the Contest. - Winner announced at Durag Fest Expo on June 21, 2024
- Cash prize will be distributed by August 9, 2024.
